In the series of events to scrap the dreaded Special Anti-Robbery Squad over the continued harassment and intimidation of citizens by Nigerians, the Nigeria Police Force in Abuja and Osun had taken in to violence to disperse the crowd from protesting.
In Abuja, the protesters were chased by armed policemen at the Central Business District as they fired teargas canisters and live ammunition to disperse the crowd.
The situation led to pandemonium, thereby disrupting human and vehicular movements in the area as the protesters scampered for safety.
In Osogbo, the protest caused gridlock at the Ola-Iya junction.
It was learnt that the protesters pelted stones at the security operatives in a bid to resist any attempt to stop the protest.
The security operatives, who initially took cover beside their Armoured Personnel Carriers stationed at the junction, later shot indiscriminately to disperse the angry youths.
